When you should NOT do a full gut
Here's the line a lot of contractors won't say because it costs them a bigger ticket: if your layout works, your subfloor is sound, and you just don't like how the room looks, don't gut it. The full tear-out is worth it when condition forces it, water damage, failing plumbing, a layout that genuinely doesn't function, not when you're only chasing a new look.
