Preparing for Your New Windows

Preparing for Your New Windows

If you are reading this, congratulations are in order! You are either taking the first step toward finally replacing your windows, or you are at the finish line and your new windows are almost a reality. Both deserve to be celebrated. Regardless of where you are in the process, you are here to learn what Window Installation Day actually looks like. And we are here to walk you through it.

Overall, we want to reassure you that while you may be picturing total chaos, most homeowners are surprised by how smooth the day actually goes, especially when they know what to expect ahead of time.

Communication Before Installation Day

When your windows are ready, a TWS Remodeling Representative will reach out to schedule your installation date. They will walk through all the details with you and follow up with a confirmation email covering everything discussed. Read through it. It will answer most of your questions before you even think to ask them. Your representative is your point of contact leading up to the day. If something changes on your end, a schedule conflict, a concern about a specific window, anything, reach out. The more we know ahead of time, the smoother the day goes for everyone. And one more thing worth noting: FREE Installation, $0 Down Payment, $0 Monthly Payments, and 0% Interest for 12 Months.

Prepare Your Space

Most installations happen from inside the home, though we sometimes need access to both the interior and exterior depending on how your windows are being replaced. Your project manager will let you know exactly what to expect for your specific installation. In either case, clear a few feet of space around each window, both inside and outside. Move furniture, take down curtains and blinds, and remove anything hanging on or near the walls around each window. Breakables on nearby shelves are worth relocating too. A little prep work on your end saves time on installation day and protects the things that matter to you.

Create a Plan and Set Expectations for Install Day

Your home is going to become a work zone for the day. There will be noise, some dust, and an installation crew coming in and out. Set those expectations with everyone in your household ahead of time. Designate safe zones for children and pets and let your installation team know where those areas are, they will do everything they can to work around them. If it is easier for you to plan an outing rather than be home during the install, there is no pressure to stay. Work out entry and exit points with your project manager, share any specifics they need to know, and exchange contact information. If anything comes up, your team will reach out. Otherwise, they will handle everything and leave your home clean when they are done.

How Long Will Installation Take?

Every project is a little different, but as a general benchmark: a full-frame replacement window on the ground level typically takes 4 to 6 hours to install. Upper-level windows tend to take a bit longer. Your TWS Remodeling Representative will give you a timeline estimate specific to your project before installation day arrives. Our installers are trained professionals. They work efficiently and take care to protect your home throughout the process.

Common Questions About Window Installation

One of the most common concerns homeowners have is that their home will be wide open and exposed during the process. Here is the reality: windows are replaced one at a time. The amount of time where there is no window in your home is very short. You may notice a slight temperature shift on extremely hot or cold days, but it will be minimal, and your home will remain protected from the elements and pests throughout. ProVia windows arrive with a protective film applied at the factory. Your installer will leave that film in place during the installation process. Do not remove it yourself beforehand.

Final Walkthrough with Your Installer

Before your installation team leaves, they will walk through every window with you. This is the time to ask questions, have them demonstrate anything you are unsure about, and confirm everything looks right to you. They will show you how to properly clean your new windows and how to change the screens, two things that are easy to do wrong if no one shows you first. If something does not look right or you have a concern, say so during the walkthrough. That is exactly what it is for.
